georgia coast atlas gigapixel tours

Starting in 2024, ECDS totally overhauled the Georgia Coast Atlas project with an entirely new technical infrastructure and a huge amount of new and previously unpublished content. One thing ECDS did in 2024 is produce dozens of new high resolution 360 panoramas. While these panoramas can be viewed on their own, ECDS also developed this proof-of-concept panoramic virtual tour tour that links together panoramas along with other media.

Through a glass Darkly: Making of Video

Creating the Through a Glass, Darkly Manifold edition took many years of collaboration between art historian Walter Melion and a team that included ECDS software engineer Yang Li, a digital publishing expert, and a curator from the Carlos Museum. ECDS produced this making of video to show what went into the creation of the Manifold edition, including the many technical challenges along the way.

Jain Map timelapse

In the summer of 2023, ECDS staff conducted gigapixel photogrammetry of the amazing Jain pilgrimage map before the map went through an exhaustive restoration. A year later, ECDS staff did a follow up gigapixel photogrammetry session with the map to capture the incredible levels of detail in the restored map. ECDS produced this timelapse video to show the slow process of gigapixel photos being taken along a motorized track.

Georgia Coast Atlas Interviews

A decade ago, ECDS conducted video interviews with leading scholars and writers at the inaugural Coastal Nature Coastal Culture symposium. At the time, ECDS only produced one short video per interview subject to put on the Georgia Coast Atlas site. Because there was a wealth of material in the raw interviews, ECDS went back to these interviews and were able to pull out six short videos from each subject and incorporate them into the revamped Atlas site. Here’s a page that shows some of the new videos ECDS was able to draw from the old material.
